     Tamarind Shade is  a perfectly blended in property within the surroundings of Tissamaramaya.  A city in the deep South of Sri Lanka which has a long-standing cultural heritage. Tissamaramaya is also famous for being an entry point to the famous Yala National Park. Tamarind shade is perfect for anyone wanting to explore this cultural treasure as well as a great place to stay if you are a wildlife enthusiast. Tamarind Shade is tucked away in a cozy nook off the Kirinda road, less than 30 minutes away from the Yala National Park. Secluded from the rest of the world, you can laze away on the tree house, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka, or in the bungalow with its rustic charms and enjoy the cool breeze that blows through the surrounding greenery, especially the numerous Tamarind trees.

        You can also devour a delicious home cooked meal courtesy of the caretakers Gunadasa and Nalini and be pampered by their village hospitality. And if you manage to get yourself to leave the comfort of Tamarind Shade, there are plenty of attractions nearby including Yala, Kirinda, SithulPawwa, etc.

        The property has a wide array of facilities to make your stay a comfortable one. The rooms are equipped with fans and are all decorated to blend in with the surroundings. The highlight of the property is the availability of a tree house. This space can accommodate two people and can be booked even separately. The tree house is perfect for star gazing and looking far out into the wilderness! The entire property including the tree house can accommodate 12  adults. Ten guests could use the main property where there are three rooms available. The tree house is suitable for two guests and there is also an attached bathroom.The friendly staff at the property will be more than happy to help you visit some of the important sites in the city as well as organise guided tours into the Yala national park. You can also enjoy a scrumptious Sri Lanka village meal or opt for a barbeque outdoors at Tamarind Shade.

        The property can be reached from Colombo in approximately 5 hours. This is a great place to base yourself to explore the nearby religious sites such as Kataragama as well as the Yala National Park.

         Within the Tissa town itself there are a number of activities to choose from. One of the most calming activities would be to just walk around the paddy fields and exploring the interior villages. With chena cultivation also taking place, this is a great place to learn about ancient agricultural practices.

          The Tissamaramaya Raja Maha Viharaya is an ancient temple built by king KavanTissa and is one of the four monasteries built in Sri Lanka after the arrival of Arahath Mahinda Thero. The site is also believed to have been visited by Lord Buddha himself , where he meditated with 500 other arahaths.

         Kataragama Devale is one of the important places of worship in Sri Lanka. Home to a large Hindu temple complex as well as a Buddhist viharaya, Kataragama is visited by endless pilgrims throughout the year and especially during the festival times. The adjoining Manik Ganga is believed to have healing properties and most pilgrims make it a point to dip in here before visiting the temple.

          The Kirinda temple which is located nearby is also famous among travellers as well as local pilgrims. It is a great place to enjoy the views of the ocean from the serenity of the temple.  Located on top of a rocky mountain the waters under are also suitable for diving at certain times of the year.

          Another attraction on the way to the famous Yala national park is the Sithulpawwa Raja MahaViharaya. The 2000 year old monastery is also known as "ChiththalaPabbatha", which translates to hill of the quiet mind. It was a place of worship as well as a place for Buddhist education. Today there are remains of imagery and paintings belonging to Anuradhapura era as well as statues of lord Buddha within the premises.

          Yala National Park is a hub for wild life enthusiasts. The park is famous for its leopards and boasts of the highest density within a given area. The best way to explore the park is by booking a safari with one of the jeep operators. Apart from the leopards there are also a number of other wildlife present within the park. Bundala wild life sanctuary is 10 minutes from the bungalow and it is famous for bird watching and elephants.
