Thaprobane is ideal for a family or friends traveling together, the villa can be booked as a whole or the rooms could be booked individually. There are also three bathrooms which are en suite with hot water to beat those chilly mornings and nights. The spacious living room is a great place for all the guests to gather and enjoy some time together, play some board games, and enjoy our complimentary cable television channels. Located approximately 150 Km from Colombo, Nuwara Eliya can be reached via road in approximately 4.5 hours, there are buses traveling between the capital Colombo and Nuwara Eliya frequently. The train journey is regarded as one of the most scenic journeys and the stop to look out for would be Nanu Oya. Nuwara Eliya can be reached from Kandy in approximately 2.5 hours via road.
Nuwara Eliya was once the getaway spot for the Colonial bosses. A strong colonial influence can be felt throughout the town. Nuwara Eliya is also fondly referred to as “Little England“ due to the chilly climate as well as the infrastructure. The tea profanations around here make the town look as if it has been wrapped around with a green carpet. There are a handful of things to do around in Nuwara Eliya and our warm and helpful staff at Thaprobane Villa will be more than happy to help you to make the most of this highland beauty.
The golf club is a great place to check out when in Nuwara Eliya and try your hand at it while there if you are an amateur. There is the club house and bar if you want to enjoy a bite. This is the oldest golf club in Asia and possibly even in the world. The Club was founded in 1889 for the recreational purposes of the colonial bosses. The Nuwara Eliya turf club is also another place with a similar atmosphere.
The Gregory’s lake which is in the Centre of the town is also a great way to sit back and relax on a paddle boat while catching a glimpse of the far away mountains. The Haggala gardens are also a great place to check out if you love to get some colour into your holiday. The Seetha Eliya Amman temple is a Hindu temple tucked away at a foothill by a riverside and is believed to have been where Seetha from Ramayana was held Captive.
A trip to a tea factory is a must do when in Nuwara Eliya and could easily be arranged by our friendly staff. Some of the waterfalls to check out are Devon Falls and St. Claire’s.
